Break the Mold: A Year of Self Establishment

Break the Mold: A Year of Self Establishment

Welcome back to H.E.R. Story! Now that we've entered into a brand new year, I've honestly been taking this time to do a lot of reflecting. I typically embrace the new year by pushing myself to tackle all of my goals as quickly as possible, but the start of this new year has felt completely different.

We tend to associate the new year with vision boards, new immediate habits, and celebration. I usually think of the new year in the same way, but to be quite honest, 2025 started off hectic. I entered into the new year sick, lacking the energy to do all of the things that I felt like I should be doing. Being unwell forced me to slow down and ease into things which actually worked for my benefit.

My time of reflection made me realize that 2025 is the year of breaking the mold. A mold is something that is designed to help whatever goes into it hold a certain shape/form. For the majority of my life, I've always tried to fit into a mold that I thought was for me. Many of us are told from a very young age what our life is supposed to look like. Because of that, many of us also try to base our lifestyles around what we think should happen to us.

I always have approached my life with a plan. I would graduate high school, go to college, graduate. and then start life in a new home. At this point, I've accomplished almost all of those things. Yet, the path that it took to accomplish those goals took a completely different route than I could have ever expected.

The most valuable thing that this year has already taught me is to break the mold. This year is about freeing myself of any unrealistic expectations that I've placed on my life. By doing this, I'm allowing myself to just be. A lot of the pressure that I've put on myself has been a result of either me looking too closely at how others have lived their lives ,or it has been a result of someone else's expectations of me. In both scenarios, I walk away unhappy with a negative perception about myself.

Breaking the mold means to finally look at life through my own individual lens. It's about figuring out what things are truly valuable to me, and then making decisions off of that. Breaking the mold also means that I will take autonomy over my own life by shifting my perception about what actually matters and allowing myself to become more and more.

For the year of 2025, determine what molds that you've been forcing yourself to fit into in your own lives. Make this a year of true self development, where you become more certain of who you are. Lead your life by making decisions based on the things that truly bring you joy, rather than trying to fit into an image of something that just isn't for you.

Our individual experiences are what makes life meaningful for each and every one of us. With that being said, don't get discouraged when the ideas of how you pictured your life unfolding don't match what you thought. When you serve a God who is the master of your life's trajectory, you can move through your life with ease, knowing that what's meant for you will always be.

Here's to a successful year. May you break free of every ill fitting expectation that was placed on you, even the ones that you placed on yourself.

See you next month,

Angel
