If this is your first time reading one of our articles, I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Angel, and I am so glad that you took the time to stop by. Today, I would like to talk about new beginnings. I recently graduated from UNC Charlotte with a degree in Marketing. I can not describe the joy that I felt the day that I graduated. All of my hard work, stress, and obstacles that I dealt with over the course of four years had paid off. I was and still am so proud of myself for just pushing through every hard day to get my degree. In spite of all of that, I still found myself feeling so lost after graduation.
Being a student had been tied to my identity for so long. Since that phase of my life was now over, all I could think was “What now?”. If I am being fully transparent, I did not take the transition well. I found myself being depressed because I did not know what to do with my life. I also did not know who I was without being a student. I had gotten so used to my normal routine and having someone else validate my choices, whether that was through grades or my job performance.
I went into college as a young teenager and left as a grown woman. So why did I feel like my life was so out of my control? Well after a lot of prayer, I realized that I had to let go of feeling like my life had to go exactly as planned. Once I was able to do that, a lot of stress and pressure came off of me. I started working towards being patient and seeking God more with my problems instead of handling them on my own. Slowly but surely I started to feel better. Yet trust me, there were a lot of bad days, break downs, and crying in between.
My purpose in discussing all of this is to let you know that it is ok to feel lost in a new season. It is normal to feel like you do not have the answers. Do not make yourself feel as if you need to over explain why you are not where you thought you would be to others. Let your journey be your journey, and embrace whatever it may look like without comparing yourself to others. I know that you may feel apprehensive about the changes that are coming, but allow yourself to take it day by day. Find strength in taking on your challenges at your own pace. New beginnings breed beautiful experiences in the end. Thank you for reading.
