Whether we like to acknowledge it or not, a huge part of what makes us human is the fact that we can feel. Our emotions are indicators that we do indeed feel. Joy, fear, anxiety, sadness, anger, and so on are just a few examples of said emotions.
Depending on where you are in your journey, you may or may not address those feelings as they come. We all come to terms with things at our own pace. I speak from experience when I say that choosing to neglect your emotions only causes them to come out in unintentional ways. We might find ourselves extra irritable or super impatient. Sometimes it can feel like it's coming out of nowhere, but it may just be an indicator that something deeper is going on.
I think there have been so many negative stigmas that have been attached to feeling. Sometimes people have been labeled as weak or sensitive for expressing and addressing whatever it is that they feel. Or at times, I think that it has been a learned behavior to avoid the very thing that makes us human.
It takes time and a lot of self work to unlearn these things. Today, I want to provide comfort by telling you that it is ok to feel. It actually is necessary for us to do so. By feeling, we allow our brains to process what is going on with us, and by doing so we can find solutions to our problems.
A good way to start feeling is to begin carving out time for you to simply check in with yourself. Start asking yourself "why?" , and really give that question some thought. By practicing this as often as possible, you are creating a safe space for you to feel. While you're practicing this, make it your mission to allow your feelings to flow. Remember this, "Let it flow, don't let it stay."
What I mean is that you should allow your emotions to flow through you without allowing them to overtake you. Don't trick yourself to believe that you are the things that you're battling with. You are not sadness. You are not anxiety. You are not fear. You are not worry. Don't allow these things to stick to you because if you're not careful, you can easily allow it to become apart of your identity. Let it flow, don't let it stay.
We are now into the new month of July, so I want you to practice allowing your emotions to flow through you. As you're doing this, be mindful of the words that you use when you are talking about yourself. Focus on acknowledging what it is that you're feeling without proclaiming bad seeds over yourself. Let's be intentional this month! Self care is the inner work that you choose to do. This is what will make you better.
If anyone is interested, our self care workbook is available here on our website to purchase. It is a great way to help people that have absolutely no clue about how to start checking in with themselves. The book contains guided prompts that will help guide you through different aspects of your personal journey.
Until next month,
- Angel
