The Balancing Act

Man, I have missed you guys. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to provide you all with a blog for the month of June, but now we're back for the month of July. This month we're talking about balance, more specifically the balancing act.

If I'm being honest, life can often feel like I'm living the same day over and over. It's so easy to just fall into routine without making the time to do anything else. For me, working has taken up so much time , and I forget that I'm working to live instead of living to work.

The biggest thing that I'm aiming to accomplish now is finding balance. As an adult with different responsibilities and BIG goals, the balancing act can be difficult to achieve. I want to share with you some practical ways that can help all of us work on evening out our scale.

Carve Out Quiet Time

Scheduling quiet time in your day is a great way for you to be present. This time should specifically be for just you, whether it's five minutes, thirty minutes, or an hour. For me, this time takes place in the mornings. Some days I have to wake up earlier than I would like, but it keeps me from just waking up and going straight into what I need to do for the day. My quiet time allows me to connect with myself and to calm any racing thoughts or anxious feelings that I may be experiencing. This quiet time will set the tone for your day, and it will allow you to feel more balanced.

Schedule Fun Time

Once upon a time, I was able to just get up and go without having to think about it affecting my schedule. Now that I'm older, I have to be more intentional about adding time for enjoyment. This is crucial to being able to maintain the balancing act. You need to do things outside of your norm to avoid burnout and just pure exhaustion. I've taken up doing hot yoga classes to not only help me clear my mind, but to also ensure that I keep moving my body in a healthy way. Even if it's just one thing, find something that you can do that will bring you joy or excitement.

Prioritize Rest

Rest is vital for our mental and physical wellbeing. Some days all I have the energy to do is rest, and I'm learning to be ok with that. If you never allow yourself to rest, how do you expect to be your best self? Whether it's just stepping away from the to do list and watching your favorite show or quite literally just taking a nap, you are deserving of rest.

Give Yourself Grace

Remember that you're just one person. Everything may not get done today, and that is perfectly fine. You will reach your goals, but you have to allow yourself the time to get there. Don't be so driven by your to do list that you lose yourself in the process. Life can sometimes come at you fast, but you have to make the time to slow down.

This month, let's all work on creating more moments for ourselves outside of goals and everyday responsibilities. The balancing act can be difficult, but it's well worth it.
